# Coaching and Career Support for Apprentices

> Every apprentice is matched with a certified career coach who guides them through CV writing, interview prep, and goal setting for life after their programme.

The coaching relationship is at the heart of Beyond the Job. Every apprentice is matched with a certified career coach who supports them from the moment they activate their licence through to their transition into employment or further study. Coaches are trained to understand the specific pressures apprentices face around end-point assessment, job searching, and early career decisions.

## What coaching covers

<Steps>
  <Step title="Intake & Goal Setting">
    The first session establishes what the apprentice wants to achieve: a permanent role, a higher-level apprenticeship, further education, or another path. The coach documents goals and builds a plan.
  </Step>

  <Step title="CV and LinkedIn Review">
    The coach reviews the apprentice's existing CV and LinkedIn profile, then provides structured feedback and rewrites to improve clarity, impact, and employer appeal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Job Search Strategy">
    Together, coach and apprentice define target roles, preferred employers, and realistic timelines. The coach introduces tools for tracking applications and following up effectively.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Interview Preparation">
    The coach runs mock interviews tailored to the apprentice's target sector, then gives detailed feedback on answers, body language, and technique.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ongoing Accountability">
    Regular check-ins keep momentum going. The coach celebrates progress, troubleshoots setbacks, and adjusts the plan as circumstances change.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Coaching conversations are confidential. Providers can see engagement metrics (sessions booked, milestones reached), but they never see session content, CV drafts, or personal notes.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Brief your apprentices on what coaching is before they activate their licences. Apprentices who understand that coaching is a professional partnership, not a test or assessment, tend to engage more fully and get better results.
</Tip>

## How coaching fits the apprenticeship journey

Coaching is most effective when it runs alongside the apprenticeship programme, not just at the end. Apprentices who start early build stronger CVs, wider networks, and clearer career narratives before they reach end-point assessment. You can encourage this by mentioning Beyond the Job coaching during induction and checking in on engagement at progress reviews.
